[김세윤 기동취재부 기자] 전 세계적으로 유행하고 있는 코로나 바이러스 감염증(Covid19)로 인해 어려움을 겪고 있는 관광업계를 위해 태국 관광청(TAT)은 여러 방안을 논의하고 있다. 

태국 관광청(TAT)은 호텔, 항공사, 온라인 여행사와 함께 고객들의 외국행 항공편 예약과 숙박 예약을 국내선 항공 및 숙박으로 대신해 제공하는 방안을 논의할 예정이다.

유타작 수파손 태국관광청장은 코로나 바이러스 감염증 사태로 고객이 이용하지 못했던 해외 숙박 예약과 해외 항공편 예약이 국내선 및 숙박으로 전환되기를 원한다고 말했다.

그는 이와 같은 방안이 하반기 국내 관광을 자극할 것이라고 설명했다.

해외여행 예약을 국내여행 예약으로 변경하고자 하는 고객들은 가격 할인의 형태로 혜택이 주어지게 된다.

태국 관광청은 이 계획으로 태국 예약의 50%를 외국 관광 시장에서 태국으로 다시 이전 가능할 것으로 추정한다. 유타삭 태국관광청장은 국내 여행자 수가 1200만 명으로 증가할 것이라고 말했다.

태국 정부는 이어 "일본이 태국, 베트남, 호주, 뉴질랜드 등 저위험 국가로 가는 항공편을 재가동할 계획이었던 만큼 태국관광청은 관광 활성화를 위한 새로운 전략을 빨리 찾아야 한다"고 덧붙였다.

지난 주, 태국관광청은 산업자원부와 두 가지 관광 부양책을 논의했는데, 하나는 'Tyo Pan Suk' (여행과 행복 나누기)이고 다른 하나는 코로나바이러스 대처에 직접 관여했던 관계자들을 돕기 위한 계획이다.

첫 번째 패키지에는 18세 이상 관광객이 등록해 호텔 할인 쿠폰을 받을 수 있도록 했다. 바우처를 이용해 호텔에서 체크인하는 사람들은 객실, 식당, 스파 시술을 할인 받고 저렴한 가격에 기념품을 구매할 수 있다. 약 4백만 명에게 혜택이 주어질 것으로 예상된다.

Thai tourism body hopes to redirect international bookings for domestic trips instead

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will discuss with hotels, airlines and online travel 
agents the idea of swapping customers’ bookings for flights to foreign countries and 
accommodations there for domestic flights and accommodations instead.

TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said he wanted flight bookings to foreign countries and
 reservations for overseas accommodations, which customers couldn’t use due to the Covid-19 crisis, to be converted into domestic flights and accommodation.

This would stimulate domestic tourism in the second half of the year, he explained.

Customers who agree to swap their international bookings for domestic ones will receive an
 incentive in the form of a discount.

TAT estimates that the scheme would redirect 50 percent of Thai bookings from the foreign 
tourism market back to Thailand. Domestic trips would increase to 12 million persons, he said.

“TAT must quickly find new strategies to stimulate tourism, after Japan planned to restart flightsto low-risk countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand, ” the governor added.

Last week, TAT discussed two tourism stimulus packages with the Commerce Ministry, 
one being 'Tyo Pan Suk' (Travelling and Sharing Happiness) and the other being a scheme to 
help officials who have been directly involved in tackling the virus.

Under the first package, tourists aged 18 or older could register to receive vouchers for hotel 
discounts. People who use the vouchers to check in at hotels will receive discounts on rooms,
 restaurants and spa treatments and get souvenirs at lower prices. Around 4 million will be eligible.
